Mountain Of The Spirit

At 4,000m, the sun was penetrating, loosening rock and ice. Gleaming chains of peaks ran in every direction and faded into the horizon. Above me, a raptor floated on thermals, silhouetted against the blue, whilst below me, glacial lakes were turquoise gems set into the platinum landscape. In the silence, I could hear my heart pounding.

Whisky, wildlife and wild, empty glens

Lily Dyu took part in the inaugural 'Run up the Highlands' trip in the autumn of 2012. Organised by the Running the Highlands team, this was a multi day run of 122 miles from near Perth, to the coast at Spey Bay, following a beautiful, but tough route north through the Angus Glens, Cairngorm and Speyside.

About

Lily Dyu

I'm an author and freelance journalist with a deep love for the natural world, mountains and wild places. My journeys have taken me from footpaths on the Welsh hills, to running around Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain.

My first children's book 'Fantastic Female Adventurers' will be published October 2019 by Shrine Bell. I am also the author of 'Fastpacking: Multi-day Running Adventures' and 'Brecon Beacons Trail Running'. My writing is featured in the anthology - Waymaking - words and art inspired by adventure, landscape and wilderness.

Please feel free to drop me an email if you'd like to discuss a project.
